DIY Organic

Organic is vibrant well-being

Fruits and vegetables are imperative for our well-being, before antibiotics, our ancestors relied upon Mother Nature for effective and safe remedies. Healthy skin is achieved from within, I would like to share a few recipe treatments using of my favorite healing foods.

Benefits of Pineapples

  • Speeds up tissue repair;
  • Protects bones;
  • Energizing;
  • Immunity booster.

Pineapples are rich in vitamin C, manganese, and bromelain. If your skin is dry, soak it in warm water for 10 minutes, cut a piece of pineapple peel and place it flesh-side down on the area, (miracle worker for dry heels), you may secure it with ace bandages, leave over night. When removing the dressing, gently peel it back, soak the area in warm water for 5 minutes, and dry. You may repeat this up to 3 nights, resulting in amazingly soft skin!Reduces inflammationPumpkin Seeds

Pumpkins

  • Promotes prostate health;
  • Fights fatigue;
  • Aids memory;
  • Helps skin complexion.

What a great snack! Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc, iron, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and B-complex vitamins. Excellent snack, easy to carry around and super healthy!

Slippery Elm

Soothes digestive tract
Eases colic
Emollient
Soothes sore throat
Calms irritated skin
Slippery elm is a soothing herb, used internally may help prevent digestive problems, crohn’s disease, and colitis. Used topically, slippery elm soothes wounds, burns, itchy and irritated skin. Cleanse the skin, then apply this soothing magical herb to the area and leave for 5 minutes, repeat as needed.

Milk

  • First-class protein;
  • Strengthens bones;
  • Rich in calcium;
  • Milk does the body and skin good!

Full of calcium, vitamin-B, iron and zinc, some studies have shown it may be good for the brain, nourishes the skin, reduces liver’s production of cholesterol and lowers blood pressure. How about a milk & honey bath lotion? Simply add half a cup of milk, 2 eggs, 3 tbls oil, 2 tsp honey, 2 tsp organic shampoo and 1 tbsp vodka in a bowl, mix together and pour in a glass bottle. You may add 3-4 tablespoons to bath water. (Keep the home-made lotion in the fridge, and use within 3-5 days)

Tea Tree

  • Antifungal;
  • Antiseptic;
  • Treats skin infections;
  • Used for oral infections.

Tea tree is an effective remedy for a brad range of ailments, especially fungal and skin problems like acne, insect bites, athlete’s foot, yeast infections, ringworm, sore throats, may help combat gum disease, and useful for colds. Tea tree skin wash is amazing, make your own! 1 tsp dried or 2 tsp fresh tea tree leaves and 1 cup of freshly boiled water. Steep the herbs in water for 10 minutes, then strain. Top 2 Organic Solutions

Nature offers many antiseptics, we can benefit from them and heal common health problems with a little help . Every household should have tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract handy, they are the most powerful natural disinfectants on earth.

Tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract

Tea tree was discovered in Australia, there are tea trees in other parts of the world, but Australian trees are more concentrated in oils. Tea tree is considered very safe, like anything else, please use caution when using this product, never use full strength oil on infants, children or pets, always dilute it first, if eye contact occurs, rinse throughly with cold water, if accidental ingestion , do not induce vomiting, drink large amounts of water, and, if available, take activated charcoal tablets to absorb the oil within the stomach.

The seeds in grapefruit kill germs on contact, new to the health industry, holistic practitioners are beginning to use it as natural antibiotic and immune system booster, it may be used topically and/or internally. Again, use caution while using products containing grapefruit seed extract, long-term use may disrupt intestinal balance, try limiting intake to 4-6 weeks, please consult with your local holistic physician for optimal results.

  • Are your muscles aching? Do the feel tired? Massage oils containing tea tree soothe and heal the body, and reenergize you, try it next time.
  • Morning breath? Cleanse your mouth with tea tree or grapefruit seed extract, dilute a few drops of oil in 6 ounces of water, then rinse! This works great in treating gingivitis as well.
  • Tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract kill fungi on contact; nail fungus, athlete’s foot and jock itch can be treated with them by soaking affected area in water with either one of the antiseptics, then make sure the skin surface is dried well, wear socks, or clean underwear.
  • Household surfaces, in a spray bottle dilute solution of tea tree oil or grapefruit seed extract, and spray the germs away! Safe to use on doors, telephones, counters, bathrooms, shower curtains, moldy walls, trash cans, humidifier, spray into air ducts and filters, and the air (instead of lysol).
  • Chronic ear infections are the leading cause of antibiotics prescription in children, and myringonotomy (small incision of eardrum where excess fluid is drained, with insertion of tympanostomy tube, to keep the middle ear aerated for a prolonged period of time). Tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract are proven ear infection warriors, by placing a few drops in each ear a few times a day, it will clear infection and heal the eardrum, however if you’re not comfortable diluting and preparing the drops for the child (completely understandable, considering you may be tired and lack time) check out this site, you can buy the drops already made www.imhotepinc.com/product1.html
  • Acne can be helped, simply add a few drops of tea tree oil or grapefruit seed extract to shampoos, conditioners and face wash, for spot treatment apply full strength tea tree oil to blemishes 2 times a day, leave to dry.

Have a great 4th of July weekend, please remember the ones who fought and are fighting for our liberty,  freedom and peace.

Is your face the roadmap to health?

Your skin is trying to speak, … listen …

Our face is the roadmap to health;  face mapping has been around for centuries, used in traditional Chinese medicine, which observes the appearance/feel of the skin, by determining the well-being of the body, mind, and spirit. Acupuncturists, doctors, homeopathy, nurses, aestheticians, massage therapists, use this practice in better evaluating  patients seeking an alternative  to Western medicine, by naturally healing the body from inside out.

The Forehead – Intestinal imbalance

Breakouts in this area is an indication of colon congestion or purging and cleansing are occurring. If the area is red, it may be an indication of excessive intake of stimulating foods, salt, red meat, or dairy products. If the are appears white, too much sugar consumption, artificial ingredients, drugs, caffeine, or fruit (which contain natural sugars), may be the problem. Moderation is always best.

Lips – Stomach

Cracked and dry lips may be a warning the intestines are not working properly, or our diet is high in preservative content. Lipsticks contain dyes, which compromise mouth and saliva enzymes by inhibiting proper digestion.

Vertical line between the eyes – Liver

Liver malfunctions, disorders and weaknesses may be caused by alcohol, drugs, poor diet, excessive preservatives, don’t ignore this signal, pancreatic cancer is the fourth silent killer in the United States.

Lines on either sides of the brow bone – Spleen

The spleen, know as the filtering organ, once clogged will create stress-related illnesses, and behavioral changes. The lines on either side of the brow bone, may also be linked to tight shoulder area, (again stress related), which may indicate a malfunction of the adrenal glands.

Under eyes darkening – Kidneys

If under eyes begin darkening to brown or black, it may be a sign of kidneys malfunction. If the area also becomes irritated, red, swollen, too many rich foods are part of the diet, alcohol, and/or nicotine, drugs, or other substances may be the cause of the problem.

Nose redness – Male reproductive organs

Redness around the nose, in males, may signal prostate gland malfunction. Similar to the forehead, redness around the nose may also indicate excessive salt, red meat or dairy products consumption; if area surrounding the nose is white, then too much intake of sugar, artificial ingredients, drugs, caffeine or fruit may be the problem.

Tip of the nose redness – Heart

Expanded capillaries, swollen tissue, redness, may indicate heart conditions and high blood pressure.

Cheek area and/or nostrils irritation – Lungs

If the cheek area and/or  irritations in the nostrils consists of blackheads, white heads, the person may have bronchial problems and frequent colds, may also be another sign of poor diet, too much sugar, and dairy products.

Mouth – Stomach

Irritation surrounding the mouth and lips, may indicate poor digestion, and lack of enzyme in the stomach acid.

Chin – Female reproductive organs

Hormonal imbalances in women are manifested on the chin with breakouts, which cause migraines, mood swings, yeast infections, irregular menstruation. Chin breakouts are red and bumpy, cystic like, and painful, depending on the condition. These types of breakouts may continue for months, hormonal therapy may be a solution, however, it may mean a type of weakness in the reproductive organs.

A balanced diet, proper exercise, daily skin care regimen, stress reduction with meditation, are simple ways to achieve optimal health, and the road to a healthy complexion! Let’s begin today!

Little Known Ways to Calmness

Calmness …..

Try another way of looking.

Try you looking and the whole Universe seeing.

~Rumi~

[slideshow]

Stress is one of the biggest factors related to health, body, and mind challenges, which brings an array of unwanted, negative reactions to our lives. Why continue giving stress so much power? How can we encourage one another to free ourselves from adverse thoughts leading to unwanted circumstances?

The effect of stress leaves undesirable signs on our beautiful complexion, making them more real than ever; common indicators are breakouts, premature aging, dull appearance, lack of suppleness, and so much more.  It’s time we take necessary steps towards a healthier, happier life, I believe we can do it together, are you ready? Let’s get going by starting today!

1. Love and Gratitude

Be grateful for who you are, there’s only one of you; you are loved, cherished, and cared for, even through challenging times. Once you’re able to feel love for yourself, the Universe will open up imaginable doors and lay an exciting and amazing path for you.

If you want something, a loving relationships, financial abundance, health,  or anything else, you must become love, you can achieve this by first loving yourself, fall in love with who you are, honor yourself, accept the way you are, celebrate you.

Once you love who you are, loving and accepting others will become a natural part of life, happiness and joy will join forces and become who you are; peace of mind will overpower any negative thought, and stress will begin to reside elsewhere, and no longer within you.

2. Exercise

Always receive clearance before participating in any  form of physical activity.  Amongst the many, my favorite is Bikram Yoga, what’s yours? Please feel free to share by commenting and leaving your valuable feedback below.

Bikram Yoga makes me feel incredible, when stress creeps up, I check the schedule and attend a 90 minute class …..  Aaaaahhh, this amazing practice heals from within, calms emotions, invigorates the heart, promotes blood circulation, improves flexibility, not to mention my skin clears up! If you never tried this form of exercise I encourage you to give it a try, you may be surprised in how great you feel psychologically and physically.

3. Kiss

Kissing is the art of pure love! Kiss away! Kiss your loved ones! Hug away, increase the energy flow around you!

According to Best Kisses kissing has amazing health benefits “Kissing is a known stress-reliever. Passionate kissing relieves tension, reduces negative energy and produces a sense of well-being, lowering your cortisol ‘stress’ hormone.”

Cortisol being the stress hormone causes premature aging, wrinkles and hormonal breakouts, so why not fight back with pure love energy? There you have it, take it a step further, make it your daily health tip, kiss away!

4. Appreciate Nature

Feeling down? Go outside, take a deep breath, enjoy our beautiful Earth! Go hiking, or perhaps a brisk walk? Maybe you prefer a swim? With so many activities, pick one and love it! With each motion inhale love and exhale gratitude!

Life is beautiful, full of opportunities and amazing people, appreciate nature and always Think Green! By helping our environment, we reduce pollution, toxic waste, the ability to keep our Earth clean is in our hands, by making conscious efforts in recycling we are protecting our health from free radicals which are damaging to our skin and hair as well. Let’s work together in removing our Carbon Footprint from Mother Earth.

The Secret of Skin Nourishment

My mother is by far one of the most beautiful, healthy, and intelligent woman I have ever met, she looks amazing, she’s funny and witty, with a sharp mind. I know, some of you may think “Of course you think that, she’s your mother …. ” , but that’s not the case.  Yes, I love her dearly, looking at her from a stranger perspective she has beautiful skin, a head of healthy and full hair, and a stunning shapely body.

What I’ve learned through the years is “Our body is an amazing machine, and it is our duty to keep it healthy”.

Still with me here? …. Good! What is the secret to amazing, supple, and radiant skin? Good nutrients of course! Small changes to our diet make a world of difference, and it’s never too late to start 🙂

Good nutrients are proteins, vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals. My mom loves raw almonds, they are high in mono-unsaturated fats, vitamin E and one of the best sources of vegetable protein; eating a handful of raw almonds every few hours will help stabilize blood sugars and boost your energy.

Making your own trail mix is fun and a healthy snack

  • 1 cup  raw almonds
  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup raisins (I prefer golden raisins)
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries and pomegranate seed (or cranberries)

You can find all of  the ingredients at your local health food store, we prefer Whole Foods.

Refined sugars have negative effects to our health, they inhibit white blood cells efficiency, (which help fight bacteria and infections), avoiding these sugars from our daily diet are imperative to our overall well-being, e.g., will help boost your natural energy, decrease blood fats, including the slowing down of the skin aging process.

I would like to thank my mom for sharing this valuable secret to a more beautiful and radiant skin, which now I’m sharing with you!  🙂

Beautiful Hands

Treasure your hands

Skin care goes beyond the face, our hands are often neglected in treatments. The primary focus in product selection is the face and neck, leaving our hands out of the loop … our poor hands, they are the reason we can function, they also need to be pampered,let’s show them love by cleansing, exfoliating and protecting them from the sun, not to mention moisturizing day and night.

Skin care goes beyond the face, our hands are often neglected in treatments. The primary focus in product selection is the face, leaving our hands out of the loop … our poor hands, they too need pampering! Let’s show them love by cleansing, exfoliating and protecting them from the sun, not to mention moisturizing them daily.

Starting this week, take 5 minutes, cherish and appreciate your hands, cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize them! If you bite or pick your nails, stop now, you may develop an infection. Choose products containing plant oils, considering they nourish your skin, and are absorbed into the epidermis faster than mineral oils.

Home-made hand scrubs

Mix 2 tablespoon of sea salt with 2 tablespoon of olive oil. Grab a handful and massage all over hands, concentrating on your fingers and knuckles for 5 minutes, rinse off with warm water. Your hands may feel invigorated and soft again!

Mix a tablespoon of almond or peach kernel oil with 1 tablespoon of sugar and massage your hands with it; great for circulation, leaving your digits blissfully soft!

Masking hands

This step is simple, when you mask your face and neck, simply apply the product to your hands as well! Amazing results!

Moisturize

We all follow a skin regimen before bed, don’t forget to moisturize your hands as well. Once a week,  and wear emollient saturated gloves overnight, this trick will help the moisturizer penetrate into the pores and may begin healing cracked hands.

Sun Protection

Sun exposure ages skin as well as our hands, meaning wrinkles and brown spots! Use a minimum of SPF 15, this may prevent these pesky blemishes, when applying sunscreen to your face, take the time to extend it to your hands also!

Hand treatment is another step to optimal skin care, it’s never too late to begin, let’s begin today!!!
