Happy New Year and Welcome 2012!!!

Having said goodbye to 2011 we welcome 2012 with open arms!!! How did you celebrate this milestone? Did you hang out with family, friends, or both? Did you attend a party maybe? Or did you enjoy down time with your significant other? Please share with us what your plans were and how you felt the following day =)

As we toasted our achievements, challenges, laughter or tears with a glass of Champagne, (or a few more), how did you feel the next day? Did you wake up with a hangover? Hey, we’re adults right? So we can have more than a glass, correct? Of course we can, but moderation is key and let’s remember the effects of alcohol to our mind and body. Is waking up with a massive hangover worth the celebrations? How can we prevent this from happening? Well, continue reading and I’ll share a few important tips with all of you which may help prevent possible headaches, nausea, dizziness, dehydration, and depression.

Prevention

  • Prior to a fun-filled night, make sure you eat a well-balanced meal, never drink on an empty stomach.
  • Load up on your vitamins, especially a B-complex supplement.
  • Drink plenty of water while you drink, easy way to intake  it have a full glass of H2O after each alcoholic beverage; avoid dehydration.
  • Avoid mixing your alcohol, keep it clear and sugar less, (sugary drinks make hangovers much worse).
  • If possible, eat while you drink, appetizers or mixed nuts.

Advice

  • If you failed to follow the steps above and are feeling lousy the next day, go out and get some fresh air.
  • Avoid curing the hangover with further drinking, this action may be dangerous and could lead to unhealthy habits of continuous drinking.
  • Carbohydrates can alleviate hangover symptoms; a good solution is a banana milkshake, bananas are high in potassium and milk may help soothe the stomach by coating the inner layers, make sure you add honey, which raises lowered blood sugar (reason why you may feel dizzy).
