Eye Love Secrets

“My eyes are an ocean in which my dreams are reflected.”

~ Anna M. Uhlich

Today,  A Blissful Skin’s fan reached out by seeking  eye care advice, naturally, I researched and decided to write a post targeting eye puffiness and possible remedies.  I would like to share a few products and tips with all of you, however, this is for you Emi Jade and thank you for being part of A Blissful Skin community =)

I’ve  heard people say: “Beautiful eyes are the window to the soul”, but is true? If so, what makes eyes beautiful?  Color? Shape? Contour??? What if you have hereditary dark circles and your color is magnificent, are you automatically disqualified from having beautiful eyes? What about puffiness in the under-eye area, or perhaps all around,  due to weather, allergies, lack of sleep, and/or other reasons, are you not part of the “beautiful eyes club”?

My thoughts are, (please feel free to share yours in the comment area below), everyone has beautiful eyes! Taking care of our amazing skin protecting the eyes and surrounding areas  is imperative, sometimes finding the right products can be a costly challenge, and if you have hypersensitive skin like myself, allergies never known to mankind will surface.  I would like to share a few of my favorite products and secrets with you guys.

Please remember  a professional skincare specialist will share any information she or he may have with friends, family, and whomever  asks for it, free of charge of course!

 Puffy Eyes

Puffiness of the eyes may be caused by:

  • Lack of sleep; to function properly we must let our mind and body rest, lack of sleep also speeds up the ageing process, and we don’t want that!
  • Not drinking enough water; our organism needs plenty of water, please drink 6 – 8 glasses a day, it does the body good.
  • Excessive sodium intake; if this is the case, drink plenty of water so you can flush your system.
  • Allergies can be seasonal, contact allergens from household/personal care  products, animals, filters, dust, etc.
  • High blood pressure, certain medical conditions, side effects to prescription drugs. Please seek medical attention, it’s worth it!
  • Stress; learning stress coping tactics is challenging, why not exercise, meditate, and center ourselves? It’s never too late to start.
  • Genetic; sometimes skin conditions may be hereditary, seek advice from you primary care physician for helpful remedies.

 P-H intensive zone

This may sound crazy, not right, unbelievable, yes …. Preparation H works! Why does it work? It shrinks blood vessels which may help with redness for a while, and contains 1% hydro-cortisone, an anti-inflammatory that might temporarily reduce puffiness. Many makeup artists use Preparation H by dabbing small amounts  on the under eye area, helping their clients look awake, relaxed prior makeup application, it’s one of the many secrets of the  beauty industry.

    • Fast, cooling relief from painful burning and itching.
    • Shrinks swollen tissue.
    • Relieves external discomfort.
    • Clear, non-greasy formula with no unpleasant scent.

Pure Healing

Fighting germs organically?

Nature offers many antiseptics, we can benefit from them and heal common health problems with a little help . Every household should have tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract handy, they are the most powerful natural disinfectants on earth.

Tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract

Tea tree was discovered in Australia, there are tea trees in other parts of the world, but Australian trees are more concentrated in oils. Tea tree is considered very safe, like anything else, please use caution when using this product, never use full strength oil on infants, children or pets, always dilute it first, if eye contact occurs, rinse throughly with cold water, if accidental ingestion , do not induce vomiting, drink large amounts of water, and, if available, take activated charcoal tablets to absorb the oil within the stomach.

The seeds in grapefruit kill germs on contact, new to the health industry, holistic practitioners are beginning to use it as natural antibiotic and immune system booster, it may be used topically and/or internally. Again, use caution while using products containing grapefruit seed extract, long-term use may disrupt intestinal balance, try limiting intake to 4-6 weeks, please consult with your local holistic physician for optimal results.

  • Are your muscles aching? Do the feel tired? Massage oils containing tea tree soothe and heal the body, and reenergize you, try it next time.
  • Morning breath? Cleanse your mouth with tea tree or grapefruit seed extract, dilute a few drops of oil in 6 ounces of water, then rinse! This works great in treating gingivitis as well.
  • Tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract kill fungi on contact; nail fungus, athlete’s foot and jock itch can be treated with them by soaking affected area in water with either one of the antiseptics, then make sure the skin surface is dried well, wear socks, or clean underwear.
  • Household surfaces, in a spray bottle dilute solution of tea tree oil or grapefruit seed extract, and spray the germs away! Safe to use on doors, telephones, counters, bathrooms, shower curtains, moldy walls, trash cans, humidifier, spray into air ducts and filters, and the air (instead of lysol).
  • Chronic ear infections are the leading cause of antibiotics prescription in children, and myringonotomy (small incision of eardrum where excess fluid is drained, with insertion of tympanostomy tube, to keep the middle ear aerated for a prolonged period of time). Tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract are proven ear infection warriors, by placing a few drops in each ear a few times a day, it will clear infection and heal the eardrum, however if you’re not comfortable diluting and preparing the drops for the child (completely understandable, considering you may be tired and lack time) check out this site, you can buy the drops already made www.imhotepinc.com/product1.html
  • Acne can be helped, simply add a few drops of tea tree oil or grapefruit seed extract to shampoos, conditioners and face wash, for spot treatment apply full strength tea tree oil to blemishes 2 times a day, leave to dry.

Have a great Memorial Day, please remember the ones who fought and are fighting for our liberty, freedom and peace. As always, thank you for reading! Please, pass the blog!

Organic Remedies

Organic is Vibrant well-being

Fruits and vegetables are imperative for our well-being, before antibiotics, our ancestors relied upon Mother Nature for effective and safe remedies. Healthy skin is achieved from within, I would like to share a few recipe treatments using of my favorite  healing foods.

Pineapple

  • Reduces inflammation
  • Speeds up tissue repair
  • Protects bones
  • Energizing
  • Immunity booster

Pineapple is rich in vitamin C, manganese, and bromelain. If your skin is dry, soak it in warm water for 10 minutes, cut a piece of pineapple peel and place it flesh-side down on the area, (miracle worker for dry heels), you may secure it with ace bandages, leave over night. When removing the dressing, gently peel it back, soak the area in warm water for 5 minutes, and dry. You may repeat this up to 3 nights, resulting in amazingly soft skin!

Pumpkin Seeds

  • Promotes prostate health
  • Fights fatigue
  • Aids memory
  • Helps skin complexion

What a great snack! Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc, iron, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and B-complex vitamins. Excellent snack, easy to carry around and super healthy!

Slippery Elm

  • Soothes digestive tract
  • Eases colic
  • Emollient
  • Soothes sore throat
  • Calms irritated skin

Slippery elm is a soothing herb, used internally may help prevent digestive problems, crohn’s disease, and colitis. Used topically, slippery elm soothes wounds, burns, itchy and irritated skin. Cleanse the skin, then apply this soothing magical herb to the area and leave for 5 minutes, repeat as needed.

Milk

  • First-class protein
  • Strengthens bones
  • Rich in calcium

Milk does the body and skin good! Full of calcium, vitamin-B, iron and zinc, some studies have shown it may be good for the brain, nourishes the skin, reduces liver’s production of cholesterol and lowers blood pressure. How about a milk & honey bath lotion? Simply add half a cup of milk, 2 eggs, 3 tbls oil, 2 tsp honey, 2 tsp organic shampoo and 1 tbsp vodka in a bowl, mix together and pour in a glass bottle. You may add 3-4 tablespoons to bath water. (Keep the home-made lotion in the fridge, and use within 3-5 days)

Tea Tree

  • Antifungal
  • Antiseptic
  • Treats skin infections
  • Used for oral infections

Tea tree is an effective remedy for a brad range of ailments, especially fungal and skin problems like acne, insect bites, athlete’s foot, yeast infections, ringworm, sore throats, may help combat gum disease, and useful for colds. Tea tree skin wash is amazing, make your own! 1 tsp dried or 2 tsp fresh tea tree leaves and 1 cup of freshly boiled water. Steep the herbs in water for 10 minutes, then strain. Leave it to cool, then bathe the skin of affected area, repeat as needed.

The Secret of Skin Nourishment

My mother is by far one of the most beautiful, healthy, and intelligent woman I have ever met, she looks amazing, she’s funny and witty, with a sharp mind. I know, some of you may think “Of course you think that, she’s your mother …. ” , but that’s not the case.  Yes, I love her dearly, looking at her from a stranger perspective she has beautiful skin, a head of healthy and full hair, and a stunning shapely body.

What I’ve learned through the years is “Our body is an amazing machine, and it is our duty to keep it healthy”.

Still with me here? …. Good! What is the secret to amazing, supple, and radiant skin? Good nutrients of course! Small changes to our diet make a world of difference, and it’s never too late to start 🙂

Good nutrients are proteins, vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals. My mom loves raw almonds, they are high in mono-unsaturated fats, vitamin E and one of the best sources of vegetable protein; eating a handful of raw almonds every few hours will help stabilize blood sugars and boost your energy.

Making your own trail mix is fun and a healthy snack

  • 1 cup  raw almonds
  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup raisins (I prefer golden raisins)
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries and pomegranate seed (or cranberries)

You can find all of  the ingredients at your local health food store, we prefer Whole Foods.

Refined sugars have negative effects to our health, they inhibit white blood cells efficiency, (which help fight bacteria and infections), avoiding these sugars from our daily diet are imperative to our overall well-being, e.g., will help boost your natural energy, decrease blood fats, including the slowing down of the skin aging process.

I would like to thank my mom for sharing this valuable secret to a more beautiful and radiant skin, which now I’m sharing with you!  🙂
