Cover your mouth

Say what? Cover what? The topic is skin deep, no pun intended, and I’m talking about  protecting your luscious lips with a natural lip balm containing UV protection. Did you know your lips (along with your eye area) have some of the thinnest skin layers on your body surface? Just like the eye area, they need extra shielding, protection from free radicals.

Why wait until is too late?

Begin using antiaging products now, why wait for the first signs of aging to show, which may send you into an unnecessary panic attack? You can begin today, preventative care is key across the board. “Women in their twenties should be using a topical retinoid–unless they’re pregnant or nursing,” says Francesca Fusco, M.D., assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

Why you should use the following: Retinoids, which contain vitamin A, are one of the most potent agents for preventing and reversing sun damage and signs of aging. And, says Hirsch, “they’re the ultimate multitasker. They speed skin renewal by shedding dull, pore-clogging cells and increase collagen production to prevent wrinkles.”

Begin today by making little changes!

Tip of the Day: Business

What Not To Do! Avoid Being The Next Victim to Identity Theft …

Be proactive, take initiative by learning what triggers online identity theft. Did you know changing passwords monthly, and securely disposing important documents in shredders regularly greatly decreases online identify theft by 97%?

Do you work in a shared computer environment such as a Real Estate Brokerage? Or are you a student who frequents computer labs? Do you use wireless services? Be sure the network joined is “secured”, meaning password protected.

Please take great caution when changing computers or even printers, make sure you keep or wipe the hard drive of all your personal and business data. Also, when browsing, use incognito tabs, once your session comes to an end, delete your history.

Why not follow the proper steps to keep your personal information safe? Protect your business, increase your ROI instead of having to chase identify thieves.

Have a great day and be safe this Memorial Weekend!

Help! Hair here, there, over there, and everywhere!

Which depilatory method are you?

Hair, hair, hair, some here, some there, and …. frustration is everywhere. There are many depilatory methods available, some are expensive while others are non effective, with so many choices, how do you know what really works? Are you really receiving the best bargain for your buck? Waxing, bleaching or creams, shaving, electrolysis, laser, and buffing are common treatments used in achieving a hairless, smooth body.

Unfortunately, many individuals fail to realize that skin type, tone, and elasticity could compromise the overall result, leaving you feeling disappointed, red, and bumpy with in-grown hairs.

Wax on, and … rip!

Waxing works great, but like many services, it requires maintenance and depending on hair regrowth, (2 to 4 weeks), may be costly. Wax comes in two forms Hot or Cold, depending on how coarse your hair is, your therapist may best determine the type, when in doubt, always seek professional advice. You can wax almost any part of your body, (female or male); unlike shaving, waxing causes body hair to grow in finer and damaging hair follicles to become more sparse, which it can be a win-win situation for many of you and me. There are some concerns involving this treatment, when using hot wax, it  may be too hot which could harm and/or burn you. What if you develop an allergy to the ingredients of the wax? Not fun! Always use caution when choosing a new type of treatment, and be sure to perform a patch tests prior any service.

Bleaching, is it safe???

Well, if you ask me, my opinion is NO! Please note, this is merely my opinion and I stand by it, lololol. I have tried this method and developed a rash, only to find out that bleach has many harmful ingredients and is invasive. If, while bleaching your upper lip the cream spreads too close to the lip line, it could possibly damage the skin pigmentation, and over time you could possibly lose that natural color of your lips. Do you really want to get it tattooed on? Nah, I’ll pass.

Shaving

Shaving seems easy, but there a many factors involved like time, hydration, blade quality, and clumsiness, which may cause skin irritation, ingrown hairs, and cuts.  This method is fast, cheap, and convenient method of hair removal; however, hair regrowth is thicker and faster than waxing (1 to 3 days). Shaving everyday is not pleasant, but many of us do it, all in the name of beauty!

Electrolysis

In my opinion, this is TORTURE! How do you like needles? Eeeeeekkkkssss ….. pain level you ask? A 12 of course! And that number is above the maximum number, with 10 being the most painful and 1 painless. Thanks but no thanks, I’ll keep my money and my natural hair! I’m sure there are plenty of you out there who have tried this courageous treatment, please, let us hear from your painful adventure, was it successful? Did it hurt? Are you happy or displeased with your results? I’ve seen the results first hand, a needle going in and out from the hair follicle, ooouuuch! Can we say painful? Not to mention the scabbing the day after on the treated areas are horrid, end result? Lots of pain, many scabs (try not pick at them, because if you do, you’ll potentially scar), session after session, and …. hair, hair, hair, perhaps finer than before, but …. I’ll stick to waxing, thanks! I don’t feel this depilatory method is beneficial, on the contrary, it’s an experience that should be left alone, maybe just for educational purposes in “what not to do for unwanted hair”.

Laser

To laser or not to laser? This technique is effective when performed by a high-end machine, yes, I’ve tried this treatment as well; however, the machine was mediocre, and the results? Hmmm …. not impressive, I would rate the pain level a 6, one being painless and ten very painful. At times laser therapy has reverse effects, making the treated areas more hairy than before, do you really want to come out hairier than before? Negative! No! Either spend valuable time and money in researching a good doctor who uses the top of the line equipment, or just ….. wax, shave, or buff!

Buffing

Do you buff? Does someone you know buff? Hey, how much easier could it get? While massaging your skin, (which improves and stimulates circulation), your hair disappears! Leaving your skin radiantly smooth. I’m honestly tired of unsightly razor nicks and bumps, with my busy schedule finding the time for a leg wax is not always possible.  Today I’m sharing this beauty secret with you, and I hope to attract more readers with this awesome little secret 🙂 If you choose to try it, can you leave a feedback? I want to hear your experience, hey … knowledge is power, and sharing is caring!

The Secret of Skin Nourishment

My mother is by far one of the most beautiful, healthy, and intelligent woman I have ever met, she looks amazing, she’s funny and witty, with a sharp mind. I know, some of you may think “Of course you think that, she’s your mother …. ” , but that’s not the case.  Yes, I love her dearly, looking at her from a stranger perspective she has beautiful skin, a head of healthy and full hair, and a stunning shapely body.

What I’ve learned through the years is “Our body is an amazing machine, and it is our duty to keep it healthy”.

Still with me here? …. Good! What is the secret to amazing, supple, and radiant skin? Good nutrients of course! Small changes to our diet make a world of difference, and it’s never too late to start 🙂

Good nutrients are proteins, vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals. My mom loves raw almonds, they are high in mono-unsaturated fats, vitamin E and one of the best sources of vegetable protein; eating a handful of raw almonds every few hours will help stabilize blood sugars and boost your energy.

Making your own trail mix is fun and a healthy snack

  • 1 cup  raw almonds
  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup raisins (I prefer golden raisins)
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries and pomegranate seed (or cranberries)

You can find all of  the ingredients at your local health food store, we prefer Whole Foods.

Refined sugars have negative effects to our health, they inhibit white blood cells efficiency, (which help fight bacteria and infections), avoiding these sugars from our daily diet are imperative to our overall well-being, e.g., will help boost your natural energy, decrease blood fats, including the slowing down of the skin aging process.

I would like to thank my mom for sharing this valuable secret to a more beautiful and radiant skin, which now I’m sharing with you!  🙂
